RELATIONSHIPS IN THE FAMILY
Greetings to you all in the precious and matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We live in a context where distance between people is increasing and relationships are being broken down. The familial bonds are gradually becoming things of the past for many. Co-inhabitation, single parenthood and alarming increase in divorce rates are becoming the order of the day. The very concept of relationship is being redefined and remodeled. In this context it is worth reviewing relationships within a family.
1. Relationships are God’s plan for humanity In creation God saw that it was not good for man to be alone and therefore for companionship and procreation God so willed that man would be united with women in marriage. This would lead to the intimate knowledge between them ensuring that children would be born and taken care of. God in His plan also ordained the permanence of marriage relationships making it clear “What God has put together. Let no man put asunder”. In Eph 3:15, we read that the whole family in heaven and earth is named from God. The name- family is the essence in which husband, wife and children live and reflect the divine nature in their human existence
2. Relationships involves responsibilities There is no doubt tremendous joy in the experience of relationships as we read in Job1: 1-5. There is also a call for responsibility intertwined in the concept of relationship. Husbands towards wives, parents towards children and vice-versa. When the family becomes larger, responsibility also grow with the in-laws coming in. with people becoming older or sick, these responsibilities become still greater. Everyone who is part of the family should be able to realize their responsibilities towards every other member of the family. Job even takes care that the relationship of his family with God is also not strained by sin.
3. Relationships as foretaste of the kingdom Relationship in the family is a foretaste of the Kingdom relationships. The very affirmation in the Lord’s prayer, ‘Our’ Father, give ‘us’ ‘our’ daily bread, forgive ‘our’ trespasses, is in fact an affirmation of a larger family relationship where every other in creation is intrinsically related to one. Jesus therefore, in Mark 3: 31-38 when told about the presence of His brothers and His mother, boldly affirms, “Whoever does the will of God is my brother and my sister and mother”.
Let us strive to strengthen the relationships within our families that we are prepared for the ushering of God’s family.
